Sonia Rykiel

Ms. Rykiel created a fashion for women who wanted to be stylish and did not depend on the opinions of others. She focused on trousers when the skirts were stylish, as well as bright colors, when dark shades were in vogue, double-sided dresses and jackets, as well as trousers that offered a silhouette of the skirt and gave freedom of movement. She sewed clothes that could be worn inside out, breaking the established rules of cutting and sewing, she uncovered the rough edges, making them a hit of the season.

"I think creativity is inside you," Ms. Rykiell told The Times Magazine in 1982. "If you have something to say, you show it. I never went to design school. I was so strong in my thinking and vision of fashion that I always knew for sure what I wanted. I said to myself, 'I have no limits'. "
